I apologize for the lack of updates over the past couple of months. I am still alive however. I’ve been busy with every day life stuff. Here’s a quick update for my 4th of July week, which really inhaled profusely (sucked).

This year, the 4th of July was another downer for a few reasons. I had scoped out a new spot for this season to take some photos. I had expected to have the city of Tucson in the shot with the fireworks, but alas, I wasn’t able to do this. The fireworks were to the south of where I was. At this point I think it might be impossible to have Tucson in the photo with the fireworks, unless I could get up to the top of Tumamac hill, which is closed during the fireworks. In any case, the buildings weren’t lit up at night, so it wouldn’t be much of a site in the photo anyway, especially after seeing the fireworks at Disneyland a few months ago. I don’t think any fireworks show will ever compare to that show. Which reminds me, I’ve been remiss in my digital darkroom duties for a while now and I still need to process my night shots and share them on the site. Hopefully soon I’ll get busy and post them.

The other 4th of July downer, which was a big one, is that our dog had to go to the vet at the same time the fireworks were going on. My wife took the dog to the vet, while I took our genetic experiment (son) to see the fireworks. I knew this wasn’t a good sign and unfortunately, I was correct. During the fireworks finale, I got the call of what was wrong. She has always chewed on rocks and on a monthly basis would accidentally swollow a rock, but she has always been able to pass them. Unfortunately, this time she wasn’t able to pass the rock and she had one lodged in her intestine, blocking everything. Surgery was an option, but with her 12 year history of being a rock hound, the hard fact was that we couldn’t risk spending $2000 on surgery for this to happen again next month. It was an extemely difficult decision, but the following day when the rock hadn’t moved at all, we decided to put her to sleep.

So, even though my wife an I took a weeks vacation to celebrate our birthdays, it was a really depressing week. Each and every day we get a little better over losing our faithful companion. She definitely won’t be forgotten and will be truly missed in our family. I hope everyone else had a far better 4th of July celebration that we did.
