Horseshoe Bend Panorama

I couldn't resist sharing this three photo panorama stitch of Horeshoe Bend near Page, Arizona. I apologize to those with small monitors, but in this day and age, wide monitors seem to be the norm. Once again, the lack of sunset colors and clouds were a disappointment, however the vastness of this area was impressive, once these three photos were put together. What are your thoughts? Too big for your monitor or would you like to see more panoramas in the future? Leave a comment and let me know.

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend near Page, Arizona was awesome!! Unfortunately, the sky wasn't very cooperative the entire time I was there. There wasn't a cloud in the sky until the day I was leaving (naturally). Sunset wasn't very colorful and the walk back into this area was fraught with pain and suffering. Why? Because I had a pinched nerve that made it next to impossible to walk the three quarters of a mile back into this area. After a 7 hour road trip, losing feeling in my right leg and being in agony, I wasn't about to sit on the sidelines and let my mom get all the glory. That, and I really, really wanted to see this place. Even without the warm colors on the canyon below and cloudless sky, I am glad to have visited this place and definitely want to go back.

Wave Rock - B&W Version

As promised last week, here is the black and white version of Wave Rock in Page, Arizona. I have a hard time choosing which one I like between the color and black & white. The red sand and rock in the color photo really makes the photo come alive, however the black and white accentuates the wave that the rock resembled when I first saw it. I guess it's a matter of preference and have no doubt most will prefer the colored version over this one, especially in my family. What are your thoughts?

Wave Rock

Like last week's photo of Golden Rock Vista, this was another layered rock formation at Horseshoe Bend. I still like last week's photo better than this one, but this has it's own unique qualities. While everyone was busy taking photos of Horseshoe Bend as the sunset was quickly disappearing, I turned my attention 180 degrees and focused my attention to this scene. At the time, the wave resembled a small wave approaching a red sandy beach. Next week, I'll be posting the black and white version of this scene.

Golden Rock Vista

Upon visiting and photographing Horsehoe Bend up in Page, Az, I found myself intrigued by the rock formations and the golden brown sand surrounding the area. I wish I had a week or two to photograph the area, but unfortunately we only had a couple of days and everything felt rushed.

Young Tumbleweeds

On a recent trip to Page, Az, we stopped off the side of the road for a brief stint to see if we could film any decent shots of the frost in the desert sand. I didn't really much care for the photos that I took at this location, except for maybe these two young tumbleweeds. The shot itself lacked a lot of color, but a black and white conversion with warm tones seemed to improve on this scene. I'm still on the fence on this photo and not wildly crazy about it , but others that have seen it, genuinely seemed to like it. So that's reason enough to share it here. What are your thoughts? Like it or hate it?

Sedona Chapel

Every visit I make to Sedona, I've always found myself looking off at the chapel when I'm driving. I've always been impressed with how they built this into the mountain. It wasn't until this last trip, that I found myself right next to the Sedona Chapel, which was completely by accident. I was trying to get a close up shot of the mountain behind it for sunrise, but there were too many houses in the way. So, after last weeks shot, I returned to get a picture of the chapel.

Cathedral Rock

I made it a point to get up early in Sedona, only to find myself driving around looking for a decent spot for sunrise where there were no houses in the way. I finally found this spot, but there were no clouds to bring the shot home. I did find another location after sunrise that I'd like to try on my next visit to Sedona, Az. The location I found, I could see a church where I might be able to position Cathedral Rock in the background of the church. If the clouds cooperate when I'm there, I think it will make a top notch photo. This photo will have to do for now.

Incoming Storm

This was taken from a helicopter ride I took a while back. As we were on our way back to Tucson, we were zig zagging through the desert trying to make our way through the incoming storm without getting hit by lightning. As with most rain storms in Tucson, you can sit there and watch the incoming rain as a wall of gray come across the horizon and slowly engulf you when you are on the ground. This storm was all around us and we continued to fly through areas where the storm wasn't. I got a nice lightning show, plus watching the storm coming across the desert floor but never being enveloped in it, was also a show in itself.

Wilson Mountain

On our trip to Sedona, I made it a point to get up early to shoot the sunrise. Unfortunately, the sky wasn't very cooperative my entire trip, so there wasn't a whole lot of color. Also, for this mountain, I'm not 100% sure this is actually Wilson Mountain (North), but it's pretty close. Once I can find a lay out of the mountain ranges, I should be able to confirm it. Initial searches didn't reveal much.
