No, they aren't raised in the back woods of Kentucky or Georgia. These ostrich are from Africa, parts of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran. They stand around 8 feet tall and can weigh 300 pounds. This particular ostrich didn't mind me at all at the Phoenix Zoo exhibit. Matter of fact, he came right over to me after I snapped off several shots.
While this photo isn't quite what I was after, I think it came out pretty good. I think I'll still take a trip to the largest ostrich farm in the USA sometime this winter and try and capture some more photos. Rooster Cogburn ranch is only about 30-40 minutes away, so it shouldn't be that difficult to get some more.
