This was taken near the town of Lochiel, Az. When I came around the corner, there was a huge dead tree and there were probably 20 or more turkey vultures all perched up in the tree. Down the way, there were 10 other vultures in another tree. I wasn't able to get in close enough with the 100-400mm lens to capture them up in the tree, without getting the tripod and my two extenders all put together. Fortunately, just behind the road up on the hill, was this one perched upon an old post in the middle of nowhere. Later on this day, while out riding a quad, I drove by and smelled a rotting carcus nearby. It's no wonder why there were so many of these hanging around the area.
