After taking a drive over to Parker Canyon Lake, on my way back to the De La Ossa Ranch in Lochiel, Az, I spotted these mule deer just off the side of the road in the grasslands. Unfortunately, my vehicle spooked them, so I was only able to get a couple of photos of them. Fortunately, this one was a keeper shot. Mule deer get their name from their large mule-like ears. Their closest relative is the black-tailed deer. Their habitat is wide spread across the western half of North America.
