This was taken at Coral Pink Sand Dunes state park in Utah. It was an unexpected detour from my recent vacation. It ended up being a 12 mile ride off the the main road we were driving on. The sign caught my attention, and of course, the photographic possibilities of pink sand dunes. Upon arriving however, it was clear that the only way to get a true pink, or relatively close to a pink shot of the sand would be to shoot at sunset. This wasn't something I was prepared to do, since I needed to be to Bryce Canyon by sunset.
The sand was nice to walk in, but the color and the dunes in general, wasn't what I was expecting it would be. It looks like it would be a lot more fun to ride motorcycles and quads in. There were a few dunes, but mostly a long sandy desert that would most likely turn a deep, rich color with the right sunset. A sunset, that I would soon discover a few hours later, wasn't going to happen on this day for me at Bryce Canyon. Nonetheless, I shot what I could and this particular photo shows how the wind, time and sand can turn out to look like an ocean with waves.
