After the first "What Is It photo" this month, I apparently didn't put much thought into this photo and its placement in gallery. I simply put all the photos into the gallery as I took them. Hind sight tells me I should have mixed it up a little and posted this later in the month. Food for thought for the next time I do something like this.
Congrats to both Mike De La Ossa and Dani. Yes, it is a painting. It's not of the Virgin Guadalupe, as Mike guessed. In fact, it's from the same mural "Raices" that I posted yesterday. This mural is very large and appears on the side of the Tucson Museum of Art building. There are so many angles and up close and personal shots you can do on this mural. I chose this close up because I really liked the content as well as the choice of colors. After taking the first shot, I realized that this needed something to make it come a live a little more. So, I readjusted the white balance and shot with tungsten to give it a little more blue.
For those wanting to see just where my close up came from, I found a photo of the whole mural and cropped out a section to match up with my photo. You can see the photo here.
This photo was part of a "macro lens" photo project I assigned to myself for the month of December (31 photos in all). I wanted to do something to spur some creativity, and get me to try something completely different that would get me out of my comfort zone. My mom also decided to partake in this assignment on her web site.
