I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July. This photo is a different variation of the Staghorn Cholla from last week. I was actually trying to see how much I could blur surrounding flowers by shooting through them in this photo and try to achieve a lot of soft red. This photo isn't exactly what I was going for, but I still like it. I've found out from people that they either hate it or like it. What side of the fence are you on and why?

I think the picture is very good. You focused in on the subject, and that was your objective. As for saying you blurred the surrounding flowers out is one way of putting it. Another way is saying that is, you burned through the surrounding flowers. Burning is a term used by surveyors using their theodolites to see through obstructive foliage when pioneering a line of sight through virgin land.

Saying "burning through" would probably be Politically Incorrect, because environmentalists would find the word Burning very disturbing. We certainly wouldn't want to upset those people. So, maybe blurring would be the correct word to use in these very important politically correct days.
