While waiting for the roads to dry up in Lochiel, Az, I took a stroll around the ranch to see what there was to shoot and kill some time. During monsoons, the weeds, flowers and grass are thriving, so I didn't have to go far before finding this New Mexico Thistle. Had I not misplaced my tripod clamp, I would have better composed this shot more to my liking.

I've been very impressed with Canon's 100mm macro. I'm sure version II is even better with the image stabilization feature.
