Welcome to the Lochiel school house from the ghost town of Lochiel, Az. I try to frequent this area at least once a year, if not more. I simply love the area and the San Rafael valley. If I could own some property down in this area, I'd probably be down there every month. This image is an HDR image comprised of three photos, merged together using Photomatix software.
As I mentioned last week, this is the original school house of Lochiel, Az. This school turns 105 years old this year. Built in 1906, it served the community of Lochiel, Az up until it closed in 1972. The building off to the right, is the original two bedroom teachers house. Once I heard that this school building was probably going to go through a restoration process, I wanted to get some photos of this to preserve the industrial/run down look that it currently has, that one hundred years of weather has provided us. For 105 years, these two buildings are still in pretty good shape.

Very nice - and the fact that you were able to capture some light from the inside of the building is a nice touch...

I attended this school (1958-1961) and have the fondest memories of this part of my life. Today I am going to be presenting to my great nephew's Cub Scout group what school was like 'in the old days'....ha, what a treat for me!
Last spring my husband and I drove down to the San Rafael valley and had a wonderful time as I had this opportunity to show him my school, Lochiel.
