Ferocactus means fierce or wild cactus. If you've ever seen once up close, you will totally understand this. They have huge fish hooks all over their bodies and can really put you in a hurt locker if you get snagged on one. The native Americans have used this cactus for a variety of things such as boiling the flowers to eat like cabbage, using the spines for awls, needles, fish hooks and in tattooing. They also used the entire cactus as a cooking pot by cutting off the bottom and scooping out the pulp on the inside of the cactus.
