In July there was a little bit of a rumor that the aurora borealis might show up as low as Arizona. This was due to a solar flare. The maps all showed that there was not evidence that it would come below the Grand Canyon area. Still, I set my alarm and went out at 2:30 in the morning looking for a dark spot away from the city lights of Tucson. I never saw any lights, but I did end up staying out until after sunrise. Fortunately for me, I ended up past Catalina, Az in a residential community called Saddlebrooke and saw this amazing sunrise in front of these ocotillo cactus. This is an HDR photo and is comprised of three photos merged together.
