As I explained last week, this past September my family and I went out to Disneyland so my wife could run the 2012 Disneyland half marathon. (She finished, BTW) During that time, we visited Disneyland and California Adventures. My main reason for bringing all my gear was to photograph Flo's Cafe at night with all the neon lights. I took a bunch of photos trying to get this shot just right. The hardest part of shooting this, wasn't the exposure or even choosing the right composition. Since I was shooting this for an HDR photo, I needed to capture three photos. One to expose for the highlights, another for the mid-tones and lastly one for the shadows. The hard part was trying to capture three simple photos without anyone walking in front of the camera. I tried for over an hour and then the park closed. You'd think it would get easier after closing time, but it didn't. For another hour or more, I waited and tried, tried and waited some more, but people kept coming out of the woodwork like moths to the flame. It was almost comical. Never the less, I was intent on capturing this scene and wasn't going to leave until either I got what I wanted, or they shut the lights off. In the end, I was mostly pleased with what I came away with. There are a couple of things that bother me, but I'm pretty hard on my own work. Regardless, it's not enough to spoil this photo for me.
