Hands down, this was probably my all-time favorite lightning capture of 2012. We had decided to try a spot of mine out near my house. The spot is awesome and sits high above Oro Valley. You have a great view of the Tucson mountains and most of the valley for South, West and North. We no sooner got out of our vehicles, set up our tripods and gear and started taking an exposure when this sucker hit. The crack of the lightning was really loud, but the thunder was more than enough to scare you to death. These bolts hit no more than a mile away, if that. As soon as we were blinded by the lightning, the thunder just exploded above our heads. A second or two after, it started pouring. Needless to say, we dumped our gear back into vehicles and went down to a safer elevation. It was the quickest outing for capturing lightning I had ever been in, but since I managed to capture this photo, it was so worth almost dying over. I can't wait until August of 2013 to come around so I can do this all over again. :-)
