One of the coolest photos that I saw in all the pamphlets of Valley of Fire has got to be Fire Wave. It's a little trek back into the park to get to this spot, so we parked and made our way down there early to find the spot. You can travel light with just a tripod, your camera and a wide angle lens for this spot. When we arrived, we could not find this spot to save our lives. We looked and looked and looked and nothing seemed like what we saw in all the photographs. It wasn't until others started coming and all gathered around one particular spot. A spot that I quickly dismissed and wished I hadn't. So, I never did get a shot of Fire Wave, but it worked out better, in my opinion. While everyone was gathered around Fire Wave rock, waiting for the sun to go down to get that perfect golden hour lighting, I picked another spot that I hadn't seen in any of the photos. The lighting never happened on Fire Wave rock, but just a 100 or so feet to the East, I was able to capture the best lighting (on that day) of what you see before you. It looks more like a giant slice of bacon than it does a rock.
