Watching the Sand Hill Cranes land and take off at the lakes of Bosque Del Apache reminded me of watching airplanes come and go at an airport. My favorite was watching them land. Towards the final few seconds of them getting ready to touch down, I loved watching their feet come down like an airplane lowers its landing gear. The other part is that it reminded me of the way a Harrier jet lands. You expect the bird to come glide in like a duck lands on a lake, as if it was a pontoon plane. These cranes just start to lower like a Harrier jet and then, touch down. No gliding. Just a few aeronautic moves and then plop down into the water.
